- ELECTED. Harrison Ngau, 32, a winner of the 1990 Goldman
- Environmental Prize; to the Malaysian Federal Parliament; from
- Borneo's Baram district. Ngau had been jailed or under house
- arrest from 1987 to 1989 for his efforts to protect tropical
- forests and the livelihood of indigenous nomadic tribesmen. He
- used the $60,000 award to help finance his successful campaign
- against Luhat Wan, the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Public
- Works, who was backed by timber interests.
