  4.     ELECTED. Harrison Ngau, 32, a winner of the 1990 Goldman
  5. Environmental Prize; to the Malaysian Federal Parliament; from
  6. Borneo's Baram district. Ngau had been jailed or under house
  7. arrest from 1987 to 1989 for his efforts to protect tropical
  8. forests and the livelihood of indigenous nomadic tribesmen. He
  9. used the $60,000 award to help finance his successful campaign
  10. against Luhat Wan, the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Public
  11. Works, who was backed by timber interests.
